NEWALLA, Oklahoma – Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputies have been called to investigate a house fire after an elderly woman was found dead inside.

Fire crews responded to the house-fire in the 3400 block of S. Peebly Road in Oklahoma County. Once the fire in the living room was extinguished, Sheryl Denbow, 61, was found dead in her bedroom.

The preliminary investigation by fire crews showed that the fire likely started from a burning candle that appeared to have been knocked over. The fire slowly smoldered creating a large amount of smoke which likely killed Denbow.

A pet cat was also found deceased inside the home.

The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office will make a final determination on a cause of death for Sheryl Denbow.
