EDMOND, Oklahoma -- A report by the Medical Examiner's Office released on Wednesday showed the deaths of two Edmond men was the result of a murder-suicide.

Spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard said 62-year-old Curtis Hawker's death was ruled a suicide with one gunshot to the head. His adult son Bruce Allen Hawker died from multiple gun shot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.

For years, Curtis Hawker taught English Composition at Oklahoma City Community College. He just retired last year.

Susan VanSchuyer is the Dean of Arts and Humanities at OCCC and remembers hiring Hawker.

"He was an excellent teacher. He was with us for 7 years. He was really excited about retirement and looking forward to traveling with his wife. Our teaching community here is so shocked," VanSchuyer said.

VanSchuyer added when news began trickling in everyone kept asking, "That's not our Curt is it? It can't be."

VanSchuyer said there was never any indication the Curtis Hawker could be capable of killing his own son.

"I think there must've been some kind of fight and the gun went off unintentionally and then he couldn't live with himself. I don't know what happened. I just can't imagine him thinking about killing someone he loved. It's such a sad situation and my heart goes out to his wife."

Hawker's wife, Ruth, was the one who discovered her son and husband dead in the home on Saturday.
