OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma Air Force sergeant was awarded for his quick-thinking during a potentially life or death situation.

Last August Air Force Staff Sergeant Daniel Gordon was on his way to work when he drove up on a three car accident. One of the victims was a police officer who was barely conscious.

A driver had been speeding down Sooner Road, cutting in and out of traffic. He hit a police cruiser, which hit another car. Sgt. Gordon ran to the officer who couldn't move.

"He was saying something. I couldn't quite understand what he was saying. He was holding the mic in his hand, so I grabbed the microphone, the radio mic, called in the report," Gordon said.

By using the radio, responders were on the scene within no time, and now Sgt. Gordon is being called a hero.

"What I did, all I saw was an opportunity to help somebody, so I grabbed a radio and used it," Gordon said.

Oklahoma County REACT and REACT International are recognizing the Air Force sergeant for his use of radio communications in an emergency situation. They said summoning help by radio expedited the response by emergency crews. Sgt. Gordon said he's humbled.

"I'm honored that they would consider me for the award," Gordon said.

The damage to the officer's car was so severe, emergency crews had to cut the officer out of his car. The officer is doing just fine today. The other drivers in the wreck had minor injuries, and all were OK.
