Pro Minor League Football Team Starting Up in Metro

OKLAHOMA CITY – A new professional minor league outdoor football team is starting up in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma City Wolverines will be just one of 15 World Football Leagues in the country. The team consists of guys from the Lone Star state and all across the Sooner State.

"We come out there we work hard and we play hard. We get after it," said team captain Joshua Brooke.

Brooke never thought a pro football team would ever land in his hometown.

"They talked about it when I was in high school, bringing a team to Oklahoma City, never had the team quality, never had the player quality that we found today," Brooke said.

NFL hopeful Devon Lewis from University of Maryland moved from Georgia to the metro to join the pack.

"Without taking a risk, you never know where you can go in life so as far as I'm concerned, if anybody has a dream to do it, follow your dream, go out there and go for it," Lewis said.

This gives the Georgia native a chance to do just that and for everyone from former NFL players to collegiate standouts and high school stars, it's a chance to build their playing career.

"NFL that's my goal, that's my outlook right now. Just trying to make it to the next level and be all that I can be," Lewis said.

"These guys have played D1 ball, some guys have played professional ball and still have some of that football hunger in them. It gives young guys hope," said Oklahoma City Wolverine Co-owner Carl Pouncil.

The team will throw a launch party Saturday, April 17 before the season starts on May 1 at Western Heights High School.

"They take care of each other. They work for each other. They fight for each other. They eat sleep and drink football and that's all I can ever ask for," the team captain said.

The Oklahoma City Wolverines also have a youth organization that helps kids show off their football skills.
