NORMAN, Oklahoma -- A small community in Norman became a target for thieves overnight Saturday.

Several residents of the Cedar Creek neighborhood went outside Saturday morning to find their cars had been broken into.

"When I got out, all my papers from my glove box were strewn about. All the compartments were open, the trunk was open," said Kyle Crawford, whose car was broken into.

Neighbors said it appeared at least six cars were broken into in the neighborhood. One couple alone is looking at a combined loss of about $1,200.

"My satellite radio was stolen, camera with all our pictures from the last several months," said Andrew Sandubra, whose car was broken into.

Those who live in the neighborhood said there was a party at one of the homes Friday night and because of that there were plenty of cars in the small neighborhood addition. Police said that type of situation can give burglars basically free reign to take what they want.

The neighborhood is a gated community, but people who live there said the gate is rarely if ever closed at night.

"The entrance gate I would say is 95 percent of the time of the last four years has been wide open. You got to pause to go out. That's about it," Sandubra said.

There is a neighborhood association who is in charge of making sure things like the gates works, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore because the neighborhood association hasn't met in four years.

Those involved with the neighborhood association said there are many renters in neighborhood, which makes it difficult to make improvements because homeowners are the ones who make those decisions.

Meanwhile homeowners in the community said they are required to pay a couple hundred dollars a year in homeowner association fees. The gates are part of those fees.

Police said they have no suspects, but they were able to get fingerprints off of at least one of the cars.
