YUKON, Oklahoma -- A group of fifth-graders in Yukon are making a difference in the lives of Oklahoma babies.

Students from St. John Nepomuk Catholic School collected 5,000 diapers and nearly 6,000 ounces of formula for Oklahoma's most vulnerable citizens. The kids donated the goods to Infant Crisis Services, a charity that distributes food, formula and diapers, formula to families with babies and toddlers.

"Since we are such a small school and we only have one class of each grade, it was surprising that we have that many diapers," said fifth-grader Madeline Patterson.

It took the students two weeks to gather the goods for the donation, where they also volunteered for the day.

"We got 300 diapers each day or more," said fifth-grader Jacob Schoulen.

Tiana Hill heard about Infant Crisis Services from a friend. She came to the charity desperate for milk for her little boy and she's very thankful that these students are giving.

"For kids to get together to bring diapers to a place like this, that's a blessing," Hill said. "There's not a lot of places young mothers can go, especially young mothers like me."

The kids said they were excited to contribute to the cause helping children not too much younger than themselves.

"I feel really happy that we finally got a chance to reach out to all the moms and the babies," said Patterson.

The diaper and formula drive was so successful at the school, one of the teachers said it may turn into a yearly project.
