Police Search for Missing Atoka Inmate

Police are searching for an inmate that went missing this morning from the Howard McLeod Correctional Center in Atoka.

ATOKA, Oklahoma – Police are searching for an inmate that went missing this morning from the Howard McLeod Correctional Center in Atoka.

According to police, 42-year-old Tracy D. Cartwright was discovered missing at the 8 a.m. headcount. The facility did a lockdown and a special headcount and determined that Cartwright had escaped. They do not know how he escaped, nor do they know his current mode of transportation.

Cartwright is described to be 6'2" tall and weighs about 196 pounds. He has hazel eyes, brown hair with a medium complexion. He has an eagle tattoo on his chest, a castle and face on the back of his left arm, skulls, flames and "RIP Eric" on his left arm and "Hot Rod Benny" on his left hip. Cartwright is considered armed and dangerous.

Cartwright is wearing prison grays and is possibly traveling in a 2000 white Chevrolet Blazer with Oklahoma tags, 833-GKF.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections Web site says Cartwright was serving 25 years after being convicted in Wagoner County of felony burglary and running a roadblock.
