OKLAHOMA CITY – NEWS 9 wanted to know what Oklahomans thought of the new health care plan. Many people had an opinion but didn't want to give it. Yet, for those who did share their thoughts, the reaction was mixed.
Months of debating over the highly controversial health care reform bill came to an end. With the legislation approved, the president's signature is now all that's required for it to become law. For some Oklahomans, it was a disappointing day.
"They shouldn't have any business in the affairs of health care anyway. Shouldn't they be protecting us from our enemies and being diplomats? Why are they worried about health care so much? I mean, I don't think so. I think they need to step out of that arena and let us worry about health care," Jonathon Davis said.
"It's not good. And there are no constitutional laws that say the United States government has to demand that you have health insurance," said Ron Knox.
Yet, others are happy the measure was passed by Congress. They're hoping reform will provide better health insurance and for some, maybe for the first time.
"I think it's a good plan for the American people, the working people and all the citizens in the United States," said Andrew Horton.
"I am glad it passed because it's a lot of Americans, millions of Americans that if they do have it, like myself, it's a really really high premium. So maybe this will help us all in the long run," Nola Kelley said.
Many people also felt they didn't know enough about the plan to speak out. After all, it is a large piece of legislation.
