What you didn't see in tonight's story is we had another company (who wishes to remain unnamed) come out and look at Sam's shelter.  The owner says the shelter was poured incorrectly.  And now some companies I've talked to are saying that fixing it is going to be very difficult.  And the shelter wasn't cheap.  It cost close to 6 thousand dollars.

That's why if you're going to buy a storm shelter, I can't stress how important it is to buy from a company that's been around for a while.  If you buy a concrete shelter, you know the likelihood of cracks is there... we have "Oklahoma" soil, after all.  And that's why you're going to want a warranty and a company that will stick around to honor that warranty.  Check the BBB to see if a company has any outstanding complaints and here are some good questions to ask:

How long have you been in business?
How many jobs have you done?
Can I get the names and numbers of a few past customers?
Are you insured?
What warranty will you offer?
What materials will you use and what are the inside dimensions?
