OKLAHOMA CITY -- Our weather is still being controlled by a huge low pressure area that extends from the surface of the earth to more than 40,000 feet up in the atmosphere.
The upper center of the storm system was near Kansas City early this morning, moving southward toward northeast Oklahoma. It will move to southern Illinois Saturday and then drift eastward to southern Ohio Sunday. Monday it will reform offshore of Washington, D.C.
Each movement to the east will help relax or pressure gradient (winds). However, today will continue with winds averaging from the northwest 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts. The wind will start out strong on Saturday, and then decrease for late Saturday and Sunday.
Mornings will be a bit on the cold side, with warmer afternoons but still feeling cool due to the wind. Out of the wind and in the sun will be great for Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Right now Saturday afternoon through Sunday look really nice.
The highest chance of rain today will be east of a line from Medford in northern Oklahoma to Enid to Stillwater to Chandler to McAlester in the southeast. Tulsa, for example, has a 40 percent chance of rain today.
