PURCELL, Oklahoma -- In Purcell the cleanup of tree debris from the January ice storm is officially underway.
This week the City council approved a $178,000 bid from Bamaco Disaster Recovery to do the cleanup.
First, Bamaco is clearing the debris from city parks to make them again available to the public. After that, neighborhood pickup will begin
The Bunnell, a Florida company, has already started picking up an estimated 44,000 cubic yards of brush left by the storm.
Bamaco expects to complete the job in 45 days. Purcell City Manager Eric Johnson said residents must stack their brush near the curb for it to be picked up.
"After we make one pass, if they can get their debris to the curb within the next week or two, we'll make another pass and do the same thing a third time," Johnson said.
Bamaco also has a contract across the river in Lexington to finish the cleanup efforts that began there early last month. Immediately after the ice storm, Lexington hired an Enid-based company to do seventy-two hours of emergency cleanup, but sixty percent of the job remains to be done.
