STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- With a $4.5 million revenue shortfall and the loss of a major manufacturing plant, Stillwater has seen a tough year, but they're still seeing businesses booming in town.

In the last year, dozens of stores, four hotels and big businesses have set up shop in downtown and around the City of Stillwater. A Best Buy is expected to open its doors as early as this summer and that could bring dozens of jobs into the city.

"It's always great to have some major industry or some huge corporation that all of a sudden creates hundreds of jobs, but personally I'm as equally excited to have 10 or 15 smaller businesses open, and each one of those hire 15, 20, 30 people. You get into the hundreds of employees pretty quickly," said Dan Galloway, City of Stillwater City Manager.

Galloway said the city's been seeing a new business open on a monthly if not weekly basis.

"We're not isolated from the economy. I think we're fairly stable here compared to a lot of other places," Galloway said.

Galloway said even with a $4.5 million revenue loss, the city has not made any major layoffs or furloughs.
