OKLAHOMA CITY -- One person was killed and another was critically injured after their vehicle was struck by a train at Southeast 49th Street and Durland Avenue Friday night.
Police said just before 9:30 p.m., a motorist tried to drive a vehicle around the railroad crossing guard when an Amtrack passenger train hit it.
"The arms were down. The car tried to maneuver through the arms, had a point of impact, and pushed the car approximately a half mile," said Oklahoma City Fire Major Robert Mitchell.
The female passenger, 20-year-old Victoria Sanborn, was killed. The driver, 21-year-old Michael Dickerson, was transported to Southwest Medical Center in critical condition.
Charges are pending against Dickerson, according to police.
The 48 passengers on the Amtrack train were not injured.
