CHICKASHA, Oklahoma -- A man who led police on a high-speed chase in Grady County with an infant in his car was taken into custody.

Authorities said they were on the lookout for Stephen Tennery and his 9-month child Wednesday afternoon.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Chris West said police attempted to stop Stephen Tennery on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike but were unsuccessful. A trooper later spotted Tennery on U.S. 62 about 1:43 p.m., driving erratically and at speeds estimated at 100 mph.

Tennery then crashed his truck on a rural gravel road in Grady County, according to authorities. The truck flipped, but Tennery was able to escape on foot with the 9-month-old baby who was in the car with him.

The man reportedly told troopers they would have to shoot him to stop him.

Troopers were able to take the man into custody and safely recover the baby.

Later Tennery told NEWS 9 he was not driving the vehicle during the chase and said his "foreman was driving the truck." Tennery also said he was trying to save the child.

The 9-month-old was transported to a hospital and is expected to be OK. Tennery did not suffer any serious injuries in the crash.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
