DEL CITY, Oklahoma -- A mother's hard work warning her children about strangers paid off Wednesday.

Police say someone tried to abduct the children in the morning as they were walking to their bus stop, but they managed to get away.

The mother of the children said she recently talked to them about what to do if a stranger approaches, but she never thought they would have to use her advice so soon.

Family and friends are holding on tight to 11-year-old Angel and her 7-year-old brother LaRonite after hearing they were nearly abducted. The brother and sister were walking to their bus stop in their Del City neighborhood when they say someone pulled up in a car and tried to lure them inside.

"First it looked like a lady and then it looked like my sister was in the car because she backed up and he stepped out and it looked like it was a stick in his car," LaRonite said.

Angel took off running and came to an intersection which is about a block from the home. The school bus was waiting. She notified the bus driver of what happened.

"Usually when I watch movies I see people be running, but they get killed, but I don't believe in that," said Angel. "I just started running like my mom say."

When Angel got to the bus stop she thought her brother and been taken by the driver. She used the bus driver's cell phone to call her mother. Her brother ran as well, but in a different direction.

"I just almost died thinking about my son being gone and also know that it's something that can happen to other people, it can happen to me as well," the children's mother Choya Loper said.

The family is now counting their blessing that that this story had a happy ending. Choya said she has to go to work early and can't be with the children when they go to the bus stop, but says that will now change.
