OKLAHOMA CITY – The acting chief medical examiner has resigned effective next month, a M.E.'s office spokeswoman said.

Eric Duvall was named acting chief medical examiner after the Oklahoma Board of Medicolegal Investigations placed current chief Collie Trant on paid administrative leave.

Duvall's resignation was submitted before Trant was placed on leave and is unrelated, said Cherokee Ballard, Medical Examiner's Office spokeswoman.

Duvall's last day will be in March.

"Under state statute we have to have a medical examiner, a pathologist oversee the agency. So between now and March 4 when he leaves, we'll be figuring out what to do next," Ballard said.
