ALTUS, Oklahoma -- Many Oklahomans are getting involved in relief efforts. Men and women from the 58th Airlift Squadron at Altus Air Force base are flying to Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina.

They'll fly missions from there to Haiti where they'll either land or conduct airdrops.

"That's quite frequent; we're out doing both types of missions, whether it's air drop or its air refueling as a receiver behind a tanker or whether it's out on the air strip practicing normal landings or assault landings, our crews are prepared for the full spectrum of missions that they might be asked to perform," Col. Ty Thomas, Commander of 97th AMW, said.

Two aircraft were scheduled to launch last night and more are leaving today.
