Locust Grove Man Killed In Mayes County Collision

A 39-year-old Locust Grove man is dead following a car accident overnight Sunday, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.

MAYES COUNTY -- A 39-year-old Locust Grove man is dead following a car accident overnight Sunday, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. The accident happened at about 4 a.m. in Mayes County.

Troopers say Joseph Hicks was driving a 1984 Chevy S10 pickup southbound on a county road two miles east of Chouteau. The vehicle missed a curve, went off the road and struck a tree, according to the report. Troopers report Hicks was not wearing a safety belt and that he was ejected 17 feet from the point of impact.

Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene from massive injuries.

Weather conditions included fog, according to troopers.
