TULSA, OK -- Oklahoma artists are joining forces, hoping to spread a new message with their music.

Tulsa disc jockeys and rappers gathered Saturday in Tulsa to take a stand against violence. They are part of a new group that's raising the bar in the industry.

"In 2009 there were 70 homicides. The media will report it, the radio will report it, but nobody is doing anything about it," said Talisha McClain, D.J. Realitee.

D.J. Realitee says enough is enough. After calling some friends in the industry, she created the Oklahoma Artist Against Violence Association.

They're using their voices to make a difference in the community. They shared storied pasts and devastating losses, including one man whose wife was killed in a drive-by ten years ago.

"I don't know what that dude could have been listening to that night. He could have been listening to some old junk that I put out a long time ago, you know when my thoughts wasn't right," the rapper said.

"I want artists to kinda be accountable for their lyrics and that goes for rappers, R&B, I want them to be more accountable, make positive music," said D.J. Realitee.

D.J. Realitee says the group is working on a song and music video.
