CARNEY, OKLAHOMA -- Carney High School basketball coach Arlie Wayne Haddox was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Lincoln County Jail on a complaint of sending obscene text messages.

According to court documents, the 46-year-old allegedly sent sexually explicit text messages to a 16-year-old student asking the student for sexual favors in exchange for better grades, chewing tobacco, gas and doctor's notes.

The documents state that Haddox sent some of the text messages to the student during school hours at the high school.

Haddox, who serves Carney High School as a coach, athletic director and teacher, was booked into the Lincoln County Jail where he was later released on a $3,000 bond.

Haddox was placed on indefinite administrative leave in December, said Carney Public Schools Superintendent Bo Osborne.

"We are working closely with local law enforcement and monitoring the situation," Osborne said.

Haddox did not return calls and e-mails seeking comment. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21.

Haddox faces charges of knowingly contributing to the delinquency of a minor and stalking.
