OKLAHOMA CITY -- Many people arrive to the airport at least an hour and a half before their flight mainly to go through the security checkpoints. Now, that won't end once they go through TSA screeners.
Security at Will Rogers World Airport is always thorough, according to Charles and Ida Locke, although they admit it's a bit inconvenient.
"Security was excellent when we came out, but we always have a problem when we leave from Oklahoma every time we come out here," Ida Locke said.
That's not going to change anytime soon.
"Passengers are going to see not as much a difference in the procedure of screening, but random and additional screening," Will Rogers Airport spokesperson Karen Carney said.
Carney says travelers who go through the initial TSA screening could be subjected to further review at the gate. She took NEWS 9 behind the checkpoints where TSA agents remained on heightened alert.
"Several times throughout the day TSA will go to the gate and do screening before you board the aircraft," Carney said.
Those screenings are random and not all passengers will be subjected to them. Most passengers have no issue with the increased security.
"If you've got nothing to hide, it's not a big deal," said Margaret Lehman. "Just put all your stuff in a plastic bag and you're just good to go."
Even the Lockes agree.
"I understand they have a job to do and as soon as you let somebody by, then you just never know," Ida Locke said.
And there's been a lot made of those full-body scanners. A spokesman at the Tulsa International Airport says they've been in use for more than a year now.
Nearly four million passengers fly through Will Rogers World Airport every year.
