OKLAHOMA CITY -- Snow is still stacked up on street corners and in parking lots, but it's not the only reminder of the Christmas Eve Blizzard. The storm did a number on metro streets so the city is already putting pothole crews into action.

After record breaking snow gave Oklahomans a white Christmas, it also gave city streets plenty of potholes. It's easy to see drivers are dodging them before they hit the problem head on.

"I think they're horrendous. They should be taken care of immediately because it does a lot of damage to your car and alignment and your vehicle," said resident Charles Duffy.

But other drivers don't believe the potholes are any worse this time of year, they just make icy roads more difficult.

"All the holes and ruts and stuff you got to watch where you're going or it'll damage your tires so the city should really take care of them," Duffy said.

Potholes happen when water seeps into cracks in the road and freezing and thawing cycles breakdown the base of the pavement overtime.

"When it comes to concrete, concrete takes a long time to cure and there's some chemical reaction when it comes to concrete and salt," said Mike DeGiacomo, the Oklahoma City Street Superintendent.

City crews in Oklahoma City have started patching some potholes around the metro. And if the weather cooperates, they expect to be out in full force starting Monday.

"We'll move in earnest starting Monday although there's another storm front so that may be sidetracked," said DeGiacomo.

If you see potholes in city streets, call the Pothole Hotline at (405) 631-1111.
