Fire At Prison Causes Temporary Evacuation In Fort Supply

About 174 inmates at a Fort Supply prison were evacuated when fire broke out Saturday morning in a utility closet.

FORT SUPPLY, OK -- A fire at a correctional facility in Fort Supply caused a temporary partial evacuation Saturday morning.  About 174 inmates were transferred from their cell block to a gymnasium at the facility.

The fire happened at the William S. Key Correctional Facility at about 7:40 a.m. according to Fort Supply Emergency Management. The fire apparently started on the first floor in a utility closet where cleaning equipment is stored.

Woodward, Fort Supply and the Prison Fire Departments responded and were able to get the blaze under control quickly. The Sheriff's Department was on scene to help the prison guards.

According to an on scene report, the prisoners were cooperating will the partial evacuation.
