OKLAHOMA CITY -- A mother and her 6-year-old son received a very big Christmas present thanks to Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity handed Rosie Miller a set of keys to her brand new home Wednesday. It's a dream the single mother said she thought she would never get the chance to experience, but her dream is now a reality.
"I finally got approved back in July, and now I am here today finally moving in as a first time homeowner," Miller said.
Miller was chosen out of hundreds of applicants as the proud recipient of a Habitat for Humanity home.
"It's overwhelming. Quite a few of my friends have been calling me throughout the day asking me how I feel, and words can't describe it at all. I'm speechless," Miller said.
Since Miller's son was born, she said it has been a financial struggle raising her son on her own in an apartment complex where she constantly feared for her son's safety, and it was that story that touched those at Habitat for Humanity.
"She had a great need. As she said she was living in an apartment that was in an unsafe neighborhood," said Ann Felton with Habitat for Humanity.
For 6 years Miller said she prayed for a day like Wednesday to come. She just never thought it was possible.
"It let me know there are people out there that will help you out as a single mother. It was a very nice experience," Miller said.
Oklahoma's Habitat for Humanity has built over 500 homes for families in need.
