OKLAHOMA CITY -- A large power outage in northwest Oklahoma City forced stores and restaurants to close and left thousands of people in the dark.

OG&E officials said crews were doing some construction in a neighborhood in the northwest part of the city when somehow a power line was cut. That caused a large power outage along Northwest Expressway between Rockwell Avenue and Britton Road affecting nearly 10,000 customers, 6,500 in Oklahoma City and 3,200 in Warr Acres.

"In dinner hour people coming in and eating and everything blinks out for a second. Comes back on and goes completely out," said James England, CiCi's Pizza manager.

James England said after that his restaurant, like all the businesses in the black out area, was in the dark for several hours. Many businesses and restaurants were forced to close while OG&E crews scrambled to restore power.

In the meantime, employees took a long, unexpected dinner break in the parking lots while some diners finished their meals in the dark.

"Several people stayed with their cell phones using lights to see the buffet and grab their pizza," England said.

Some OG&E customers were in the dark for about two hours.
