Moms in Touch Pray for Schools Across the Globe

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The health and well-being of Oklahoma's school children has many local moms joining hundreds of hands around the world for "Moms in Touch."

In the sanctuary at St. Mark's Lutheran church, a small group of mothers feel that they don't have to speak loudly to cry out in prayer.

"We need a new parking lot. Praying for our safety for our sports kids. Praying against the flu right now," said Betty Ban Horn, state coordinate for Moms in Touch.

The flu, the moms said, has hit some of their children early in the season. They're mothers of Seqouyah Middle school students in Edmond.

"I think about these teachers right now who are trying to teach in a classroom that's half empty. There are so many children that are out sick. And when can they test?" said Sally Story, part of Mom's in Touch.

Twenty percent of schools in Oklahoma are prayed for by a local Moms in Touch group.

In fact Moms in Touch has spread around the world to 130 countries, and the handbook has been translated in 38 languages. And united now around the world, the group believes the power of their prayer is making a difference.

"Every week I had two moms who were passionate about junk food in the schools, and that's been five years ago, and do you know that there's been legislation passed since that time when they insisted every blasted week that they were going to pray coke and those sweets out of the school," Ban Horn said.

Moms in Touch International is hosting a worldwide day of prayer for children and schools on November 14.
