STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State University students and fans are reacting to the news that Cowboys' top receiver Dez Bryant has been indefinitely suspended by the NCAA.

Bryant landed the cover of Sports Illustrated in September, but Wednesday the national standout found himself in hot water.

The NCAA determined that the OSU All-American is ineligible because of an NCAA rules violation. Bryant admitted that he lied to the NCAA about meeting with former NFL star Deion Sanders in Dallas.

Now Pokes fans are reacting to what many are calling a complete shock.

"I was doing homecoming activities earlier and someone just burst in and says Dez is out and we were all just really shocked," said Jordan Simpson, OSU freshman.

Others fans said they understood why Bryant was penalized.

"I think it's kind of a bad deal but at the same time if he violated NCAA rules then there has to be some kind of sanctions, but overall that's gonna hurt the Pokes," said Jon Benham, OSU junior.

An explanation from Bryant himself came in a status update on Facebook where the fan favorite stated:

"This is why I'm suspended.....I went to Deion sanders house ....and the NCAA found out.....they ask me if I been to his house I told them no...I thought it was a violation...but it wasn't... so I told them I went to his house... I lied to them and I shouldn't have....and I'm not suspended for the rest of the season....I'm sorry osu!"

Despite the disappointing news, some fans are remaining optimistic.

"I was really upset because he's a key player on the OSU team, but I really feel as a team they can pull it together," said Katie Osburn, OSU freshman.

It has not yet been determined how long Bryant will be considered ineligible. Coaches at OSU said they have already begun the process of applying to the NCAA to reinstate him.
