OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Medical Examiner's office has released the cause of a toddler's death and the child's grandmother is speaking out.

The Medical Examiner said head and abdominal blunt force killed 3-year-old Eli Johnson, but have not yet ruled it as a homicide.

However, the boy's mother, Tye Johnson, and her boyfriend, Eddie Valdez, are facing first degree murder charges. Police say the case is so severe they are refusing to go into detail.

The toddler's grandmother is speaking out. She said her daughter, Tye, didn't hit her children, but should be held responsible for her son's death.

"She was part of it, she might not have put her hands on him, but she allowed it. It took five hours to take my grandson to the hospital. She should have done it then," said Kimberly Shepard, Eli Johnson's grandmother.

Authorities removed seven other children from the home and put them into protective custody.
