OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association board voted Tuesday to reject an appeal by Jenks High School over a player's eligibility.

Earlier this year, the association ruled that Jenks player Jarrett Lake was ineligible to play last fall and will be ineligible to play this year.

The OSSAA found Lake was found ineligible at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, the school he previously attended. He was found ineligible because of an outstanding bill. Therefore, according to OSSAA rules, Lake was also ruled ineligible at Jenks. That bill has since been paid.

Read OSSAA information on this case released by a News On 6 Open Records Request.

With Tuesday's decision by the OSSAA, Jenks will forfeit 9 games from the 2008 season. The list includes regular season games against Bartlesville, Broken Arrow, Muskogee, Sand Springs, Sapulpa and Tulsa Memorial.

It also includes playoff games against Enid, Edmond Santa Fe and Mustang.

Jenks must also give up their runner-up trophy from last year's state championship.

"It was an unfortunate situation, and we intend to improve some of our procedures and processes," said Jenks High School Principal Mike Means.

Means said he could not go into details of the situation or how it happened because the student is a minor, but Means did say that Lake withdrew from Jenks a week and a half ago.

However, according to Tyrone Lynn, a parent of former Jenks stand-out and current OU Sooner Gabe Lynn, Lake will attend Jenks this fall, but not participate in any athletics.

Lake has been living with the Lynn family.   According to Tyrone, Lake still plans to attend OU on a football scholarship.
