OKLAHOMA CITY -- One Metro family is pleading for the return of their daughter's hearing aids after a thief stole them at a public pool.

Nine-year-old Savannah Schlegal's has almost no way of communicating without her hearing aids.

Savannah is supposed to be a summer camp with the rest of her friends, but for the past two days, Savannah has not wanted to leave her home.

"She's lost. She's in her own little box. She didn't want to get up this morning. She didn't feel like she fitted in because she had lost her hearing aids," said Savannah's mother, Lou Ellen Schlegal.

Lou Ellen said her daughter was swimming at the Northeast Park pool near Northeast 33rd Street and Kelley Avenue for less than an hour when someone went into Savannah's locker and stole the hearing aids. She said the most interesting thing was that nothing else in Savannah's locker was touched.

"Her tennis shoes and towel were still in there but her hearing aids were gone," Lou Ellen said.

Lou Ellen said Savannah has worn the $3,500 hearing aids since she was 2-year-old.

"They're not something someone can use. They're programmed for savannah. It's very special she has them back," Lou Ellen said.

If Savannah does not get her hearing aids back, it will take at least six months before her family can afford new ones. Lou Ellen said this is a big concern for her since Savannah starts school in a month and will need hearing aids then.

Savannah's family said they are not looking to get whoever took the hearing aids in trouble. They just want them back.
