OKLAHOMA CITY -- Hundreds gathered on the steps of the state capitol building Saturday morning to not only celebrate freedom but also their constitutional rights.

Demonstrators with American flags in one hand and protest signs in the other, took part in a national Tea Party movement.

"It's the best day for a veteran like myself. We live for days like today," said Jon Wolfe who took part in the Tea Party protest on the capitol's steps.

Organizers of Saturday's protest said Tea Parties taking place across the country on Saturday were a way to let Americans' voices be heard.

"It's generally referenced by the tea party in Boston when the people decided things had gone far enough and it was time to stand up and take their government back " said Tea Party organizer Chad Williams.

And that's what Saturday's protestors said they wanted to do. Many said they were frustrated with the government and current administration.

"We are tired of the government saying one thing and then turning around and doing a different thing," said Cielo Pulido, Tea Party demonstrator

Many in the group said they are against higher taxes, excessive government spending and corporate bailouts.

"It's ridiculous. Capitalism is supposed to work. Things are supposed to change. You have down times and up times and the government cannot fix the down times. You have to let the system work," Wolfe said.

Organizers said like the other tea parties, this Independence Day rally is not short on support. The group did not invite lawmakers but said they hope state leaders will hear their message loud and clear.

"Our government is here for the people not for us to hear from our elected leaders," Williams said.

Saturday's rally was the third to be held locally this year.
