ADA, Oklahoma -- One man's injuries at an Ada jail have raised questions whether the injuries were intentional or accidental.

On May 30, Kevin Manuel was arrested at a travel stop in Ada for driving under the influence and resisting arrest. According to an Ada paper, an officer said Manuel was placed in the upper bunk bed of a detox facility at the jail. While there, the officer claimed Manuel fell off and injured himself.

"Just from interviews so far, people that were around, people who were at the jail at the time, based on what those people said, we believe it was an accident," said Mark Bratcher with the City of Ada.

Manuel's family does not believe the story.

"We want the truth and we do not believe the truth is that he sustained all of those injuries from falling off a bunk bed. It just, it doesn't make sense," said Malisha Manuel, Kevin Manuel's sister.

Ada police will now conduct an internal investigation to determine the exact cause of his injuries.

Manuel's parents believe he was roughed up by police and said they have witnesses to prove it.

Manuel was taken to Norman Regional Hospital but is still not able to give a coherent account of what happened at the jail.
