Sky's the Limit at Women Pilots Museum

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A metro museum dedicated to honor women pilots is keeping the legacy alive after a decade. The 99s Museum of Women Pilots celebrated its 10th anniversary Saturday.

You've heard of Amelia Earhart of course, in fact the museum is located on a Lane named after her, but the building itself holds more than her history.

Each memento and artifact holds a story of the women of the air.

"I think it's really awesome that women can actually show some backbone and do stuff without guys hanging on their backs," said museum visitor Britany Carden.

Soar from the past, present or and future of aviation in the 99s Museum of Women Pilots.

Britany Carden is a fan of the famous female pilots like Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

"I thought that was really brave and cool of her," Britany Carden said.

The museum holds the legacy of women pilots of war and those in the National Air Races like Grace Harris, just to name a few from the 1920s and 30s.

"I'm hoping people walk away today knowing some of those stories, not just the famous ones but the ones that were really down in the trenches and did a lot of work," said Carolyn Smith with the 99s Museum.

Britany said she's not planning on being a pilot but she loved getting an inspirational history lesson.

The museum has one of the largest historical collections dedicated to female pilots.
