OKLAHOMA CITY - An animal welfare officer was stabbed during a routine check on the northeast side of the city and Oklahoma City police are currently looking for the suspect and his dog.

Police said the welfare officer stopped to talk to someone walking his pit bull without a leash. At first the chat about putting the dog on a leash went fine, but when the animal welfare officer asked for identification, the suspect produced a knife and attacked the officer.

The animal welfare officer is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Oklahoma City police are searching for the suspect and his pit bull. The suspect is described as a black male in his early 20s wearing red pants and a white shirt.
