OKLAHOMA CITY -- What does Michael Phelps, the 14-time gold medalist swimmer, have in common with a horse named First Moonflash? Simple, they're both good at breaking records.
First Moonflash, a 4-year-old colt born and raised in New Mexico, and holder of 3 world records, will race outside his home state for the first time this weekend at Remington Park.
He'll face some of this season's most successful runners from Remington, including Separate Bet, Illegal Memories, and Chances Are I Wil.
But he doesn't appear to be concerned. Moonflash's trainer, Jose Gonzales says his prize pupil takes it all in stride.
"The day of the race, he's laid down in the stall all day," Gonzales said. "This horse rests all the time."
Of course when it comes to racing, First Moonflash is all business. He holds world records in the 400-yard, the 350-yard, and the 440, or the quarter mile.
So isn't there a lot of pressure on Gonzales to win with his world -class speedster here at Remington?
"I don't think so," Gonzales laughed. "There's no pressure on me, pressure's on the rider and the horse!"
