Speculation Continues to Surround Michael Vick's Dog Operation

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Michael Vick is out of prison after serving time for funding a dog fighting operation.

One of his victims that were abused for months is still recovering nearly a year and a half later.

It's been a long road to recovery for 4-year-old Alf, but there's a good reason why Vick's dogs that were terrorized and beaten deserved a second chance.

Life for Alf couldn't be better especially when you consider where he came from.

"In the very beginning it was very hard for him to settle down and rest and be comfortable," Alf's owner Molly Gibb said. "Either his legs would be so under him that he would fall backwards or they were out behind him so much so he couldn't sit either."

Alf is damaged both physically and psychologically after being severely beaten and used in pit bull fights that were funded by the former star quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. Pictures taken of Alf after being rescued showed his paws and nose stained with blood.

"To be chocking dogs and strangling them, electrocuting them, drowning them that goes beyond pale," Gibb said.

His condition is a reason Gibb, a lifelong dog lover, stepped in and rescued Alf.

"The sadness, the depth of their pain, their little dog souls, it was unbelievable," she said. "I literally sank to the floor."

Vick having just been released from prison is raising questions whether he'll play football again; something Gibb doesn't see as a problem if he proves he is sorry for what he did.

"It's only gonna work if it's really true in his heart because if it's not true in his heart, that's going to show," Gibb said.

And to show he's sorry, Gibb said she would like to see Vick stand up against dog fighting and not just as a publicity stunt.
