BOLEY, Oklahoma -- Safety is a serious concern for this holiday weekend. Extra Oklahoma Highway Patrol officers are out enforcing the "click it or ticket" campaign.

And even cowboys have to buckle up. The cowboys have to follow the rules of the road, and with thousands of folks at the Boley Rodeo, law enforcement is rounding up traffic safety support.

"You get to see a lot of horses and stuff and you can see everybody happy," fan Karlos Durham said.

Durham, 10, calls Boley home and when the state's oldest and largest African American rodeo, it's not just a show, it's part of history.

"It's like a tradition to meet up with a lot of families and stuff," Durham said.

Fans from all over the country join in on all day barbeque, car show and the place is constantly packed. More than 20,000 people are expected to roll out to the rodeo.

"When you get this many people to an event like this here, there's a lot of people not wearing seatbelts and drinking and driving," Boley Police Chief Virgil Green said. "We want to encourage people not to drink and drive."

Chief Green says they're reaching out to everyone, especially the youths.

"They're trying to reach that age group 16 to 20 that don't think it's cool to buckle up," Chief Green said. "Not out to get them. Come to Boley and have a good time."

Chief Green says in the six years they've had the traffic safety campaign; they've never had a fatal accident in the area.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol is also helping out with traffic safety.
