OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma Archbishop is weighing in on Sunday's controversy at Notre Dame University.
Hundreds lined the streets to protest President Obama's commencement address, saying his views on abortion don't coincide with Catholic beliefs. That's a fact the president acknowledged in Sunday's speech.
"The fact is that at some level, the views of the two camps are irreconcilable. Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction," said President Obama.
University supporters defended President Obama's speech saying differing views are what makes a university a place for higher learning.
Oklahoma City Archbishop Eusebius Beltran sent a letter to Notre Dame before the commencement address opposing President Obama's invitation to speak there.
He wrote "The only right choice for Notre Dame University is to publicly rescind the invitation to the president and the plan to honor him with a law degree. Please hear the cry that I and others desperately make on behalf of unborn children."
Read the entire letter the Archbishop wrote to Notre Dame University.
