OKLAHOMA CITY -- The economy has thrown America's favorite past time a curve ball. Big league parks all over the country are reporting a slump in attendance.

The Redhawks are not facing the same challenges as the major leagues. For one, the economy in Oklahoma is not as bad as it is in big cities and ticket prices are affordable.

In the middle of the day during a work week cheers fill the Bricktown Ballpark. Students and school staff from all over the state are visiting for field trip day.

"We have two seasons of baseball where we come from so we just love baseball," Ladonna Fleharty said.

They traveled two hours to watch the Redhawks. They wouldn't have made is had it not been for the special ticket prices.

"When we have special days like this it helps us with the gas and the rates and all, it's good," Fleharty said.

Despite the slumping economy attendance is up over last year. The economy is actually helping to fill seats.

"More people are staying at home, instead of taking vacations they're coming to the ballpark," John Allgood with the Redhawks said.

Team officials hit a home run with Oklahoma families by offering $7 tickets on Mondays and Wednesdays. You can also eat all you want and enjoy the game for $22.

It's a deal these Harrah students couldn't pass up.

"It's a good value here and it's a good setting and I would think most people from Oklahoma would continue to come out," Guy Worth said.

And as long as Mother Nature cooperates the Redhawks expect to see a much better season than the major leagues.

The rain has had some impact on attendance, but the team has only had to cancel one game due to bad weather.
