SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Four Shawnee teens are facing serious charges for what they thought was a harmless prank.

The teens, between 18 and 19-years-old, were taken to the Pottowatomie County jail after they were caught throwing eggs at cars and they now face felony charges.

"They think throwing eggs is a prank, but if you damage the paint on a car how many people in this day and age can afford a paint job?" said Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz.

It's certainly not the first time, or last Shawnee police will deal with teenage pranks. But in Oklahoma, throwing or dropping an object, even an egg, at or from a moving vehicle is against the law and punishable.

"They need to be held responsible for their actions," said Chief Frantz.

The four teens now each face two felony charges. Robert Butler is representing the teens and thinks the charges are excessive.

"It's youthful behavior. It's immature and that's what caused this and I'm certain we will try and get this reduced to a misdemeanor," said Attorney Robert Butler.

Butler said his clients are trying to get into the Army and this incident could hamper their plans.

"And you know with felonies pending, you can't get into the military," Butler said.

One of the victims said the teens were throwing the eggs from their car when they hit his truck. He had no idea they would face felony charges, and feels bad about that, but still he said it doesn't excuse their actions.

If the teens are convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison or fines of up to $10,000.
