OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Humane Society of the United States announced D-boy, a metro family's pit bull, is a finalist in the 2nd Annual Dogs of Valor Awards.

D-boy was shot three times while protecting his family in December.

There are 15-finalist up for the award, all of which performed extraordinary acts of courage by helping a person in need.

D-boy received overwhelming support from Oklahoma residents who helped with the dog's medical expenses.

A panel of judges will choose the Valor Dog of the Year, but you can help by picking the People's Hero winner.

Vote for D-boy and help his chances of winning the People's Hero Award.

Polls will close Friday at 4 p.m.
