Tornadoes Severely Damage Western Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY - Several tornadoes touched down in north-central and western Oklahoma Saturday night and into Sunday morning, causing severe damage throughout the area.

Hail was reported throughout the storm area, the largest reported were the size of baseballs.

An estimated 2,000 homes were without power.

"We had a tornado that did some damage to the expo center and extensive damage in north Enid," said Mike Honigsberg, emergency management director for Enid and Garfield County. A

Search and rescue crews have been working throughout the day Sunday to check on residents. The hardest hit area was Garfield County, where at least three tornadoes took nearly identical paths over areas hit by previous storms.

The most destructive storm struck around 10 p.m. in Enid, ripping off roofs, tipping over trailers and downing power lines. Another tornado touched down about 10:45 p.m. near the neighboring community of Kremlin and yet another tornado hit about 1:45 a.m. near Kremlin.

There have been no reports of major injuries. Downed trees, power lines and power flashes were reported across the northwestern part of the state. Severe damage has also been reported in Fairview. Major damage was also reported at a trailer park in north Enid.

The Woodward County Emergency Manager and Kingfisher County Emergency Manager are helping Garfield County with operations.

Crews have also been trying to check on farms in the rural part of the storm damaged areas but several roads have been affected by flooding from heavy overnight rains and downed power lines.

Severe weather is continuing to move across the western part of the state Sunday. Storms will be capable of producing tornadoes, very large hail and damaging straight line wind. The highest risk for severe weather will exist across the western-half of Oklahoma, this does include the Oklahoma City metro area.
