NEWS 9 Wins 3 Awards from OAB

Griffin Communications won several awards Friday night from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters for Outstanding Achievements in 2008.

Oklahoma City - Griffin Communications won several awards Friday night from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters for Outstanding Achievements in 2008.

Griffin Communications includes both NEWS 9 in Oklahoma City and NEWS on 6 in Tulsa. 

NEWS 9 was represented by meteorologist Michael Armstrong and Mason Dunn, who accepted a first place award for Spot Weather for the coverage of Tornadic Events of May 24, 2008.

Gary England, not present to help in accepting the award, was also responsible for the excellent meteorology broadcasting that took place during severe weather May 24.

The Consumer Watch Team, comprised of Amanda Taylor and Rich Kriegel, was given a first place award for Franchise Reporting. Kriegel was present during the awards ceremony and accepted the award.

NEWS 9 at 10 p.m. was given a first place award for Evening Newscast, which is produced by Nathan Elliott.

Director of Statewide Online Content, which oversees News9.com and Newson6.com, Blaise Labbe accepted the award on behalf of Elliott.

NEWS 9's sister station, NEWS on 6 in Tulsa, was given the following awards:

  • First place in Morning News Program for 6 in the Morning
  • First place in Investigative Reporting for Cell Phone Spying
  • First place in News Topicals and TSRs for The Greatest Gift
  • First place in Single Feature for A Damn Fine Guy
  • First place in General Image Promotion for Gimme the Mike!
  • First place in News Image Promotion for Getting Answers: Proof
  • First place in Weather Image Promotion for Weather History
  • First Place for Best of Show
  • Community Service Award
