TULSA, OK -- A major steroid bust is reaching across the state as arrest warrants were issued for 10 people Thursday in Tulsa, Wagoner County and Oklahoma City.

In a briefing, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics agents and Tulsa Police divided the warrants into teams and went to make the arrests.

They have been investigating the case for two years, and it's finally coming to a head.

Agents say this case doesn't involve typical drug users. They have encountered professional people -- doctors, police officers and firefighters.

Sherry Smith, an Oklahoma City firefighter and professional bodybuilder, is listed in the warrants for possession.

Trudy Ireland of Tulsa is also a target of this steroid investigation. Agents say she admitted using steroids but stopped, afraid it was causing heart problems.

Darrell Terrell, a longtime amateur bodybuilder who has been featured in fitness magazines, is also among those wanted by police.

The warrants were for possessing illegal steroids as well as distributing them.

"I was constantly surprised at how big and how deep this problem was," an OBN agent said.

Agents say steroid abuse was a much bigger problem than they ever dreamed.
