MIDWEST CITY -- As Midwest City residents return to their neighborhood, they're finding the charred remains of what used to be their homes.

Although the residents were able to evacuate, several families continue to look for their pets who were left behind.

The Dolney family returned to their house Friday, looking for Simba and Cado.

"We love our dogs," David Dolney said. "We want them back."

David's mother, Nikki, also shared the pain of losing a family pet.

"They're my other kids," Nikki Dolney said. "We're just hoping we find them."

The Dolneys is just one family of many who continue their search for pets at the Midwest Animal Control.

The animal control officers remain optimistic, including Officer Erik Bedford.

"If they had some way out, they'd find it," Bedford said.

Marsha and Jerry Bowermon also believe they will find their pet. They're home is now longer standing. It was taken by the fire, but their 14-year-old dog Buster, who's partially blind and deft, somehow made it out of their burning home and a melting kennel to survive.

He's now singed and worn, but being hailed a miracle.

"I am shocked he was able to survive the smoke inhalation," said Veterinarian Jennifer Holland.

The Bowermons are also in disbelief.

"How can you survive a fire like this? We were coming over to really find and bury him," the Bowermons said.

They said families shouldn't give up their search.

"Keep up the hope," Marsha Bowermon said. "Keep up the hope."

Matt intends to continue his search for Simba and Cado.

"I'm looking for you. Just be ready, I'll come for you," Matt Dolney said.

Anyone with info on Simba, Cado or other missing pets should call Midwest City Animal Shelter.

Also, anyone for an older male Akita is asked to contact Midwest Veterinary Hospital.
