SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma - Sand Springs police say a woman arrested in the fatal shooting of her husband told investigators she was defending herself when she picked up the gun.

Detectives arrested 44-year-old Deborah Kaye Weaver after finding 42-year-old Jimmy Lee Weaver dead in the couple's living room early Friday. He had been shot in the chest.

According to a police report, Weaver said the couple had a physical argument before the shooting.

The slaying is the city's first of 2009.

Court records indicate that Jimmy Weaver had filed for protective orders against his wife more than once. A judge granted a temporary protective order in September, but it was later dismissed.

In December, Deborah Weaver pleaded no contest to domestic assault in the presence of a child. She received a suspended sentence and was ordered to perform community service, records indicate.
