PERKINS, Oklahoma - A small airplane heading to Stillwater for fuel crashed into a thicket of trees and a pond near Perkins, killing the pilot.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 58-year-old George C. Waller Jr. of Stillwater died at the scene from massive injuries.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro says investigators are expected to arrive on the scene Friday to probe the crash.

The OHP says Waller left a private airstrip, made a series of turns and was westbound when the plane crashed through several trees and into the pond. The patrol report cites witnesses who say the engines did not appear to be running properly.

The twin-engine Cessna 337 was manufactured in 1968.
