OKLAHOMA CITY -
A significant winter storm will
impact the region late Sunday night through early Tuesday morning.
Action area: If you are within the
Action area, now is the time to prepare for heavy snow, blizzard-like conditions
and snow-covered/packed roadways resulting in very dangerous traveling
conditions. Main impacts of the storm will be felt from Sunday night through
Monday night.
Ready area (OKC & TUL): Start
making preparations for a winter storm which may produce heavy snow. Fierce
north winds Monday evening and overnight into Tuesday morning could result in
blizzard-like conditions making traveling dangerous. Main impacts of the storm
will be felt Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning.
Timeline: Snow will begin across
western Oklahoma Sunday night and intensify and move eastward Monday morning
and Monday afternoon. Initially,
precipitation will begin as rain across southern, central/OKC and northern OK
with the heaviest of snow expected to start Monday afternoon and evening.
Periods of moderate to heavy snow will persist overnight Monday into Tuesday
morning before dissipating from west to east.
Impacts: Potential exists for
widespread travel disruption throughout this event. Heavy snow and fierce north
winds will result in blowing and drifting snow, making traveling very dangerous
at the height of the storm and thereafter. Blizzard conditions may develop as
visibilities become significantly reduced as a result of the strong northerly
winds and blowing snow.
