A state assemblyman in New York is behind a proposal that would require gun owners to buy $1-million in liability insurance.
OKLAHOMA CITY -
A State Assemblyman in New York is pushing a proposal that
would place more restrictions on gun owners.
The proposal would require anyone who owns a firearm to also
buy one million dollars worth of liability insurance. Some estimate
premiums for such insurance would amount to more than $2,000 a year.
Henry Israel owns Henry's Gun Shop in Yukon. He says
such a proposal would never fly in Oklahoma.
"Personally I think it's asinine," he said. "It would
be totally unenforceable."
Michael Barry of the New York City-based Insurance
Information Institute says while New York isn't the only state considering
something like this, nothing has gone past the "preliminary phase."
