Oklahoma Cruise Ship Passenger Says Carnival Should Be 'Ashamed'

TUTTLE, Oklahoma -

Debbie Robinett wasn't surprised to learn about the problems on board the now powerless Carnival Triumph.

The cruise ship is expected to arrive in Mobile, Al. Thursday. It's being towed after losing power because of a fire in the engine room.

Robinett says the she was on the same ship for a cruise that left Galveston, Tx on January 28.

The day before that cruise, Robinett received an email from Carnival saying the Triumph has experienced a technical problem with its propulsion system on a previous trip.

The problem would affect the ships cruising speed and allowed Robinett to only visit one port. The slower ship also meant a late arrival back into Galveston and Robinett had to book another flight back home.

They put these people lives in Jeopardy," said Robinett, about Carnival's decision to send the Triumph back out on the water.

Carnival tells News 9, previous problems were due to "an electrical issue with one of the ships alternators."

Carnival's statement released on Tuesday says "There is no evidence at this time of any relationship between this previous issue and the fire that occurred on Feb 10.

"I think they were negligent is sending this ship out," Robinett said.
